New CD For Sale: "First Impressions" by The Minor Duo (Latin-American, European & Baroque Music for Two Guitars)

Long-time SCGS members, Janet Fitzpatrick & Sue Hull, (The Minor Duo) have been playing together for the best part of 15 years. By rarely playing solo, their standard is a genuine step above the average amateur pairing. Last year they decided it was time to create a permanent record of some of the pieces they most love playing and embarked on a project to create a CD. After a great deal of work, here it is.

Benjamin Verdery's Greg Smallman 2003 Classical Guitar For Sale

"This is an exquisite 2003 Greg Smallman cedar guitar in perfect condition. It has had only one previous owner, Benjamin Verdery. It has been set up by Smallman for maximum playability. It also incorporates Smallman’s innovative adjustable neck system. Presently this guitar has been fitted with a sophisticated B-Band piezo pickup system, specially designed for amplifying classical guitars. This can be kept intact or removed easily at the buyer’s discretion.

This particular Smallman is a fine example of this maker's more recent work. One can literally hear the decades of maturity and artistry of Smallman in this instrument. José Luis Diaz Hand Made Guitar from Paracho, Mexico For Sale:

A new classical guitar, hand-made in Paracho, Mexico, by José Luis Diaz, winner of 8 prizes for his classical guitars. It has some special features: the most noticeable is the back, which is thicker and more curved than usual.

The body is made of cocobolo; the fingerboard of ciricote (Mexican hardwoods); the top is Canadian cedar. It has a matt finish. The craftsmanship is impressive; it has a strong bass and middle range and a full sound generally. It could be a good choice for playing in ensemble with different instruments.

(This luthier also makes a more conventional classical guitar, rosewood body, price around £1900 in the UK).
