| Southampton Classical Guitar Society ~ Ensemble | |
| We run, not one, but two opportunities for ensemble playing. Both of these are currently sessions lasting about an hour which starts the two monthly meetings. You can join in with a once-off fun go at playing something, or if you are a regular ensemble member, some of the music is looked at again after a suitable period which can be used to give it some practice at home. We start at 7:45pm, the emphasis here is on having fun and we normally manage to pull it all together for a performance by 8:45pm, when we break for coffee. The second meeting is on the second Wednesday, also held at King John's house in Romsey. This meeting runs from 7:45pm to about 10.00pm, and the second half of the meeting can be either informal performance by members for each other, or a chance to form smaller groups for more ensemble work. This ensemble runs on a drop in basis - which means you come when you want to but you do not have to come every time. This policy arises out of the Society's aim of inclusion and a recognition that we all have other commitments. |
Occasionally we invite a guest conductor to take an evening - for example in June 2007 we enjoyed Mark Eden conducting his new ensemble piece St Swithun's Day. The previous ensemble director has recently given up his post, handing over the baton to Tim Rushworth. If you have any ideas or views about the ensemble or can suggest any way of making it more enjoyable or rewarding, please do not hesitate to contact Tim via email. Some of the music that is being worked on will be placed on the internet on the Sibelius music web site (click here). This enables players to play their part along with the other parts at home, at a convenient speed. The music is shown under the heading of 'Guitar Ensemble'. The music for forthcoming meetings will often be linked on the events page. |
